June 14, 2010- After learning all about life on a farm, and shaving their own version of sheep, our JK/SK's visited the real thing. They visited Anderson Farm in Lively to find out about life on a real farm.

June 5, 2010- Our littlest people at St. Raph's had a wonderful sheep shaving experience this week. Well not really sheep shaving, but pretty close, and this was way more fun!

Accommodation Review Decision Made by Trustees


May 29, 2010- The Sudbury Catholic District School Board will not close or make any changes to its nine schools in the east area of the city because of an anticipated lack of provincial funding for a new building.

St. Raphael School Annual Walkathon


May 29, 2010- Again this year our Catholic School Council held their major fundraiser, the Walkathon. Students gathered pledges to walk for their school. It was a gorgeous day for walking, and the students and staff took a nice long walk for their school.

Learning Outdoors at the Killarney-Shebanoning Outdoor Education Center


April 21, 2010- Miss Filice's 3/4 Grade Class joined Mrs. Hardwick's Native Language class and a few Grade 8 volunteers in a visit to the Sudbury Catholic District School Board's new outdoor education center.

St. Charles College Student Receives Significant French Immersion Scholarship

June 20, 2010 - Alison Hunt, a grade 12 student from St. Charles College found out recently that she was the successful grant applicant for a $20,000 French Immersion scholarship from the University of Ottawa. After applying to the University for their International Development and Globalization program, Hunt received news that she was going to be receiving $5,000 a year for the next four years as long as she takes 60% of her courses in French.

Sudbury Catholic Lifeskills Students Take Part in Annual Special Olympics

June 20, 2010 - On Friday, June 18, 2010 students from both the elementary and secondary lifeskills classes gathered together at Pius XII Elementary School for the board's annual Special Olympics event. St. James Catholic School Selected Provincially as a School on the Move

June 20, 2010 - St. James Catholic School joined an elite group of schools across Ontario recently that have been recognized by the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat as a School on the Move. The School on the Move initiative highlights schools that are making substantial progress in raising student achievement and have sustained this progress over several years. St. James was nominated by the Ministry of Education and after a visit to the school by Ministry officials, was one of only 33 schools selected provincially.

Hip-Hip-Hooray for Baby Day!!!

June 10, 2010 - On June 10th, Sudbury Catholic staff who had a baby (or grand-baby) born in 2009 were invited to the Catholic Education Centre to celebrate together as a community. There were beautiful babies everywhere and the new moms, dads, grandparents and siblings enjoyed each other's company while board office staff provided some helping hands in order for guests to enjoy prayer and lunch together.

Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Dual Credit Program Announced

April 27, 2010 - The press room was filled to capacity at Laurentian University as the Right Honourable Paul Martin announced the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Dual Credit Program on April 27, 2010. In partnership with Laurentian and the Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board made the announcement about this initiative that is the first of its kind in Ontario and is a program that enables Aboriginal youth to earn high school and university credits at the same time.
